Chapter 7
They gazed across a battlefield; a landscape so ruined that it could not possibly be recognized as what it might have been formerly. The haze of smoke hung heavy, clouding the horizon and turning the sun blood red. Craters dotted the pocked earth, cracked and baked from the heat of the weapons that had raged there. A shred of a banner fluttered upon a dead tree’s branch in a hellish breeze, holding the symbol of a civilization that the Angels did not recognize.
Proud and noble, it would’ve been a strange sight to see such creatures amid such a desolate scene, had there been anyone to witness.
This was not the planet they had left just a century ago.
lyrics
As the war settles
They descend below
Revealing the loss by their absence
A world once full of life
Now dormant and grey
A search for life only reveals the dead
He's holding the bones of man
A dream now lost in time
So much hope now turned to dust
No life left but the ghosts remain
This night in history
So many years ago
Through tears he stares to
A world now only broken
Isolation lies before them
No hope to carry on
In anguish their wings rip away
